This is how CMHA helps!
We’re changing the way people think about mental health and substance use and how people are treated – with awareness, education and community partnerships.
CAST (Communities Addressing Suicide Together)
Communities Addressing Suicide Together (CAST) is a community capacity building initiative of CMHA NS. CAST supports suicide prevention through the development and sustainability of community coalitions, education & training, awareness events and information-resource sharing through an extensive web-based information-resource HUB. The CAST program is working with Nova Scotians to build suicide-safer communities in the province.
Social & Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process of learning the fundamental skills needed to succeed in life. The SEAK Project advocates and promotes SEL as a way to maintain and improve positive mental health.
Social and emotional learning has been proven to help children to develop the necessary skills to:
- better identify emotions
- develop healthy relationships
- make good decisions
- behave both ethically and responsibly
- decrease aggressive behaviour
Education & Training
As the first step in a step-wise learning process, Nova Scotians will acquire generalized to core mental health knowledge, and the ability to develop powers of reasoning and judgement associated with a variety of mental health-related topics through CMHA NS Division’s education programs.
