CMHA NS’s Ride Don’t Hide raises over $25,000 for mental health initiatives

Over 60 Nova Scotians ran, walked, cycled and danced throughout the month of June in support or CMHA Nova Scotia’s Ride Don’t Hide raising over $25,000 for mental health initiatives and programming in Nova Scotia.

The annual choose-your-own-adventure challenge was held virtually again in 2022. while virtual events do present some logistical challenges, CMHA Nova Scotia Division Executive Director Karn Nichols says, in Nova Scotia, it hasn’t stopped donations from coming in.

“Last year about $10,000 was raised through Ride Don’t Hide — this year, we have raised more that double that amount,” Nichols notes. “I think that really tells you where people’s hearts are. It is so inspiring to see people supporting this event. And to see that support growing.”

CMHA NS is a not-for-profit charitable organization that delivers mental health supports, free of cost to anyone who needs them.

The cornerstone of CMHA’s programming is improving access to the support Nova Scotians facing mental health challenges or illness need to be well.  In 2021, funds raised through donations and events like Ride Don’t Hide helped CMHA NS launched five education programs and peer support programs, including THRIVE.

Funds raised through this year’s event will support three new programs and help CMHA continue to ensure every Nova Scotian has access to programs and education that support good mental health and well-being.

“Those who choose to support CMHA NS understand that ensuring individuals experience good mental health is good for entire communities,” Nichols adds.  “We are so grateful for that support.”
