CMHA NS Community Spotlight
The CMHA NS Community Spotlight program promotes the important work of organizations within Nova Scotia that support mental health and well-being with a focus on the rural, 2SLGBTQIA+, Newcomer and/or BIPOC communities by highlighting them on our digital platforms.
The goal of the Spotlight program is to increase awareness of these organizations and help more Nova Scotians get the help they need.
Why is this program important?
Our mission is to ensure Nova Scotians experience good mental health and well-being. We recognize that our mission is broad, and that we cannot and will not achieve it alone. To better meet the mental health needs of all Nova Scotians we are connecting with partner organizations that are reflective and supportive of Nova Scotians’ diverse experiences, identities and histories, and contribute to the overall well-being of our province.
Spotlight seeks to highlight:
- Non-profit, or community organizations in Nova Scotia providing community-based, grassroots services that contribute to the mental health of Nova Scotians.
- Focus on areas currently not represented by CMHA-NS.
** Contributing to Mental Health of Nova Scotians in this instance is defined as:
a) direct mental health and emotional support services.
b) increasing access to social determinants of health for marginalized groups, particularly:
- access to economic resources
- social inclusion
- freedom from violence
c) Recognizing that colonialism is a major determinant of health for indigenous people, organizations supporting indigenous education and tradition directly support Indigenous mental health.
