Bounceback available in Nova Scotia
Apr 7, 2022
The Canadian Mental Health Association of Nova Scotia is proud to announce that CMHA’s BounceBack program is available in Nova Scotia. BounceBack® is a free, guided self-help program that helps adults and youth 15+ learn to manage low mood, mild to moderate depression, anxiety, stress or worry. Through telephone coaching and skill-building workbooks, participants can learn ways to overcome their symptoms and improve their mental well-being.
Already offered by CMHA in BC, Ontario and parts of Manitoba, where it is funded by provincial governments and donors, BounceBack® was expanded to the rest of Canada, including Nova Scotia in 2021. The expansion of BounceBack® is made possible by a $1 million donation from Bell Let’s Talk.
“We know many people in our province are dealing with mental health challenges, along with the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CMHA NS Executive Director, Karn Nichols. “Having the BounceBack® program available will not solve all the inequities in our mental health system, but it is one more low barrier resource we can offer to help Nova Scotians flourish, thrive and be well.”
Based on cognitive behavioural therapy,BounceBack® gives Nova Scotians more choice in accessing support from home to help navigate challenges and improve coping mechanisms. The program has been shown to reduce depressive and anxiety symptoms by 50 per cent at program completion.”
Available in English and French to residents of Nova Scotia, the program is delivered by coaches who are extensively trained. Participants can be referred by a primary care provider (doctor or nurse practitioner, or psychiatrist) or choose to self-refer as long as they are connected with a primary care provider.
