The Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Division seeks an Employment Support Worker for our AT-Work /Au Travail Program. The successful candidate, in accordance with CMHA’s policies, standards, and guidelines, is responsible for managing a caseload of individuals who self-identify mental health concerns as a primary barrier to employment.
They will also provide job development services; identify and recruit potential employers, provide assertive outreach to the community, negotiate wage subsidies, develop strategies to increase employment opportunities, and establish and maintain positive employer relationships.
KEY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND RELATED TASKS:
- Support and assist participants with developing and implementing an individualized employment action plan.
- Provide online, and in person employment, training, education, volunteer and community resources to clients.
- Work in collaboration with community supports, family members and service providers.
- Assist clients with reporting income and communicating with DCS.
- Develop understanding of programming offered by community partners in order to make informed and responsible referrals to appropriate programming.
- Provide information and access support for pathways to education that will increase client employment opportunities.
- Provide accurate information and access support for appropriate virtual or in-person mental health programs, services and supports.
- Meet targets as set out by funders and maintain employer/participant documentation and statistical data.
- Participate in regular At Work/Au Travail team meetings and CMHA-NS meetings online and/or in person.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University and/or college degree in social services, rehabilitation, psychology, OT or another related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum one-year experience working in a vocational/employment initiative.
- Understanding and experience working with persons with mental health issues.
- Understanding of Supported Employment and IPS model.
- Familiarity and interest in providing educational programming and client supports through online platforms and telephone as well as in-person.
- Ability to apply a client-centred, non-homophobic and anti-racism approach.
