ASIST will be offered in Halifax December 1 &2
Oct 14, 2022
The Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division [CMHA NS] is proud to offer Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training [ASIST] training in Halifax on December 1 and 2, 2022. ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid that teaches participants to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. These sessions are being offered at a subsidized rate of $79.06 (including taxes) to community-based organizations for whom the regular ASIST fees are a barrier.
We are able to offer this training at a more affordable rate thanks to grant funding from the Mental Health Foundation. This is one of three subsidized sessions we have been able to offer across the province.
Regular ASIST fees are $275/person and include course materials and nutritional breaks.
Details:
This workshop is held over two days — December 1 and 2, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The time and location will be the same for both days. Your ticket covers both days.
Refreshments and light snacks will be provided free of charge. Please bring your lunch with you. Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the session is scheduled to begin so it can start on time.
About ASIST:
ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid that teaches participants to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.
Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop — ASIST can be learned and used by anyone.
As the world’s leading suicide intervention workshop, ASIST has been proven to help participants become more willing, ready, and able to intervene with someone at risk of suicide.
In the course of the two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:
- Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
- Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
- Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
- Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
- Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

Pay this program forward: We are able to offer this important community resource to more Nova Scotians at a lower rate thanks to the generosity of Nova Scotians who donate or fundraise for mental health initiatives.
