The Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division [CMHA NS] is currently seeking two youth members (Aged 19 – 30) with a strong interest and experience in mental health to join our volunteer Board of Directors. We encourage applications from Black, racialized and Indigenous Peoples, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities.

About the Position: Six board meetings are held per fiscal year, meetings are held using a hybrid model (virtual and face-to-face in the HRM). Board meetings are typically 2 hours in duration. Applicants are also expected to join one of our committees.

As the leader and champion for mental health in Nova Scotia, CMHA NS Division promotes the mental health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness and mental health challenges.

Together with our branches in the HRM, Colchester East-Hants and Southwest Nova we provide the tools and support Nova Scotians need to be well and stay well. This includes support finding and maintaining safe, affordable housing, assistance finding sustainable, well-paying jobs and access to mental health literacy tools and education.

CMHA NS Division is also part of a federation, which means we are a collective of organizations across the country, bound together by a brand and mission.

Advocacy: Working with our partners, we push for new systems, policies, and practices that increase community capacity and foster better mental health and well-being for all Nova Scotians and address the social determinants of health.

Education: We promote greater understanding of mental health issues through inclusive, evidence-based mental health programming and education across the province. We are committed to ensuring this programming is accessible and meets the evolving mental health needs of Nova Scotians.

Resource Navigation: We connect all people in Nova Scotia with safe, inclusive, culturally relevant, accessible mental health programs, services, and support. We are committed to expanding our network and building strong connections with our community partners across the province to ensure we meet these needs.
