CMHA NS welcomes new community suicide prevention program coordinator

ANNOUNCEMENT

Karn Nichols, Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division [CMHA NS], is pleased to announce the appointment of Shaylene Googoo [She/Her/Elle] to the role of Communities Addressing Suicide Together [CAST] Coordinator.

The CAST Program works with communities across Nova Scotia to build and strengthen their capacity to address suicide through education, training, awareness and resource sharing.

The CAST program has an extensive resource hub where you can find information on suicide loss, suicide attempts, prevention, intervention, post-vention, safe messaging, risk factors, warning signs and more.

“Shaylene is joining us at a pivotal time. There is so much work to be done and we are thrilled to have someone on staff dedicated to that work,” says Karn Nichols, Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division.

Googoo, who is based in Wekoqmaq First Nation, is a strong advocate for those living in rural communities and is well-equipped to support them with their mental health journey.

In her role as CAST Coordinator, Googoo will work with communities across the province to build and strengthen their capacity by supporting them with suicide prevention training, education, training and resources.

When not working, Googoo enjoys hiking, spending quality time with family & friends, and practicing cultural activities such as hunting.
