CMHA NS Division releases annual C.A.S.T. report
May 22, 2024
C.A.S.T. is an acronym for Communities Addressing Suicide Together
Suicide is an urgent public health issue in Nova Scotia.
While it is a complex issue involving biological, psychological, social, cultural, spiritual, economic factors, we know that suicide can be prevented when collective efforts are harnessed to instill hope and healing, raise awareness, and promote mental health and well-being.
The work undertaken by Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division [CMHA NS] through the Communities Addressing Suicide Together program (C.A.S.T.) aims to build and strengthen community capacity to address suicide through education, training, awareness and resource sharing.
This work is informed by the Nova Scotia Suicide Prevention and Risk Reduction Framework’s strategic objectives.
It is also informed by the World Health Organization’s Preventing Suicide: A Global Imperative report which reinforces the value of a public health approach to suicide prevention and aligns with the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework .
With support from the Department of Health and Wellness, our work each year focuses on building hope and resilience, promoting mental health and well-being, and improving access to resources and information.
