CMHA Cape Breton Talk Today Game with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles
Feb 3, 2020
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division, CMHA Cape Breton Branch teamed up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during their last home game.
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and CMHA Cape Breton to implement Talk Today. Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the league.
A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.
More than 280 players across the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) will benefit from mental health awareness and suicide-prevention training this season through a new partnership between Canadian Mental Health Associations (CMHAs) throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
With generous support from the NHL Foundation, this new partnership will see CMHA’s Talk Today program made available to all 12 teams in the MHL.
