What is safeTALK?
safeTALK is a world-leading suicide prevention training program designed to help people become more alert to those who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide. Trusted by mental health professionals and approved by the World Health Organization, this course equips you with the skills to intervene and guide someone in crisis toward support and safety.
With over 120,000 people trained each year, safeTALK is the world’s fastest-growing suicide prevention course. It’s designed to be easily accessible and can be learned by anyone—whether you’re a volunteer, teacher, parent, or community member.
At the end of the course, every participant receives a certificate of completion, recognizing their new skills and commitment to suicide prevention.
What Will You Learn?
In the safeTALK course, you’ll learn:
- How to recognize the signs that someone may be considering suicide.
- How to talk openly and safely with someone about their thoughts and feelings.
- How to connect individuals with the right professional support and resources.
- How to create a supportive environment to help prevent suicide.
Who Should Attend?
safeTALK is for everyone 16 years of age or older who wants to help prevent suicide. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Front-line workers (healthcare, social services, etc.)
- Volunteers who interact with people in the community
- Parents who want to learn how to support their children
- Teachers who work with students
- Youth (ages 16+) who want to make a difference
Please note, this course may not be suitable for those who have recently been seriously affected by suicide, as the content can be distressing.
