Canadian Mental Health Association on April 28 Announcement

Halifax | Kjipuktuk, April 28, 2023: The Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division and our branches are pleased by the significant commitment to the development of support services in Cumberland, Colchester and Hants counties, as recommended in the Mass Casualty Commission’s final report.

Brian Comer, Minister responsible for Nova Scotia’s Office of Addictions and Mental Health, and Carolyn Bennett, federal Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, announced an $18-million joint investment over a two-year period to address the unmet needs for mental health, grief and bereavement supports in the affected communities, on April 28. 

We hope that this brings a small comfort to those who were affected directly and thank them for their bravery in bringing these issues forward.

The Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division and branches support the resilience, recovery and well-being of people living with a mental illness and those experiencing mental health challenges across the province.

Community Mental Health organizations, such as CMHA, play an important role in bringing the voice of community to these developments and we look forward to joining in the efforts to improve these services for all Nova Scotians.
