April 7 is World Health Day
Mar 21, 2023
April 7 is World Health Day, an awareness campaign led by the World Health Organization [WHO].
This year’s theme, Health for All envisions that all people have good health for a fulfilling life in a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.
The right to health is a basic human right. Everyone must have access to the health services they need when and where they need them without financial hardship, including mental health services.
This means that to make health for all a reality, we need Universal mental health coverage.
Fast Facts
- One third of people in Canada will experience a mental illness or substance use disorder during their lifetime.
- Yet one third of those people can’t get the care they need. As many as 3 in 4 children who need care can’t get it.
- The pandemic only made things worse, with 37% of Canadians saying their mental health declined.
To make make health, including mental health, for all a reality, we need: individuals and communities who have access to high quality health services so that they can take care of their own health and that of their families; skilled health workers providing quality, people-centred care; and policy-makers committed to investing in universal health coverage.Still, only some of us will get the care we need.
Join our Act for Mental Health Campaign and demand your right to access the health services you need.
