CMHA NS seeking two peer support facilitators for new support group

CMHA Nova Scotia Division and the Membertou First Nation Men’s Society are currently seeking two peer support facilitators to lead an upcoming peer support group for Indigenous youth who identify as male and are between the ages of 15 and 18. The group is scheduled to kick off in September.
The training period is eight hours and will be done in person if allowed by public health guidelines. Otherwise it will be done virtually.
What does a peer support group facilitator do?
Facilitators are responsible for guiding a group with a focus on ensuring groups are a respectful and safe space to discuss mental health challenges.
Qualifications and Skills required to be a peer support facilitator:
- Must be located in Cape Breton, within driving distance to Membertou, NS.
- Community facilitator experience
- Comfortable with Public Speaking
- Lived experience with mental health
- Engaging and encouraging personality
- Credibility within the community
- Ability to lead
- Leadership experience
- Organizational skills
- Willingness to commit to the agreed upon schedule [Two hours per week, in person [according to health guidelines, over 8 weeks]
