Suicide prevention training now available online

The Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Division is now offering online suicide prevention training through the LivingWorks Start programThis program comes after in-person suicide prevention training was paused in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Executive director, Pamela Magee says that the online training is a great alternative until we can do face-to-face programs“The LivingWorks Start training provides a high-quality, interactive experience that teachethe same best practices that you’d learn at in-person training like Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and SafeTALK, says Magee. “We’ve had over a dozen people reach out to us since March looking for suicide prevention training and we are pleased to now offer the online alternative.” 

In 90-minutes, the Start program by LivingWorks teaches trainees to recognize when someone is thinking about suicide and connect them to help and support. Because of the pandemicmore people are struggling with stress and anxiety and suicide prevention training is more important than ever.  

The training doesn’t require any previous training and can be completed by anyone 13 and older. Those interested can register today. If you register using the Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Division’s link, your course fee will be reduced to $20.00 CAD per license and 25 per cent of your fee will be donated directly to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Division
