Maximize your Mondays with CMHA NS

You don’t need a diagnosis to take your mental health seriously. In fact, prevention should be on the forefront of our minds – the same way we actively work to prevent disease and physical illness.

That’s why CMHA NS Division has launched Mental Health Mondays, a series of virtual mini wellness sessions based on practices that promote positive cognitive, social and emotional development and encourages a state of well-being.

Our staff will offer these free sessions every Monday afternoon throughout July and August.

The sessions, which will be led by CMHA NS’s education and awareness team, Elizabeth, Lindsay, Glenn and Sabrianne, run from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. beginning Monday, July 12, and will cover a wide range of wellness practices, including Motion and Movement, work-life balance and humour.

These sessions are free and open to everyone. There is no obligation to attend each session. Choose the ones that appeal to you and start your week of right! Interested in attending?

Email Elizabeth Baker at [email protected] to receive the Zoom link for the session.

See below for full the Mental Health Monday schedule.

Mental Health Monday Schedule:

Monday, July 12 – Movement and Motion | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Join facilitators Lindsay and Elizabeth for a short chat about the different ways we can bring more physical movement into our lives.  This program is designed as a practice, so we will take some time for independent activity, and close our hour with a regroup and opportunity for reflection. All activity levels and abilities welcome!

Monday, July 19 – Switching Focus: Negative to Positive | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The world we live in seems to be becoming an increasingly negative place.  We can get caught focusing on the negative aspects of life which can cause us to become stuck and unable to move forward.  By switching our focus, from negative to positive we can start to “re-train” our brain to respond to positivity and to think in a more positive manner.  This switch can have huge impacts on our mental health and our lives and help us to become unstuck.

Monday, July 26 – Work-Life Balance | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

In the Work From Home era, it can be increasingly difficult to find a balance between work life and home life. Join Sabrianne and learn why it is important to separate the two, and how to create a balance that works for you. We will partake in an activity designed to help you identify what balance looks like for you, and help you make a plan to put it into practice.

Monday, August 2  – NO SESSION – NATAL DAY

Monday, August 9 – Mood Hacks | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Our brains are fascinating places! Join Lindsay and Sabrianne as we learn some quick and easy tricks to get our brains working with us.

Monday, August 16 – Humour and Mental Health | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Can you remember a time when you laughed so hard your stomach hurt or you spit out your milk?  Remember how good you felt afterwards?  Humour can have a huge positive effect on our mental health.  Join us for a discussion on how to incorporate humour into our lives as part of our wellness plan.

Monday, August 23 – Journaling | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Journaling helps your mental health in many ways! It gives you a place to release your emotions and thoughts, prioritize your problems, fears or concerns and encourages you to become more aware of your behaviours and actions to support your mental wellness. Join Elizabeth and Lindsay as we talk about the benefits of journaling and share some of our own practices and experiences with different kinds of journaling.

Monday, August 30 – The Power of Gratitude | 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

People who regularly express gratitude are shown to be happier overall, leading to lower rates of stress and depression. In this session we will talk about the positive benefits of practicing gratitude and some simple practices to implement more gratitude into our lives.
