Caring Connections Family Peer Support Group

CMHA NS Division offers Caring Connections to support Nova Scotians over the age of 16 who are providing emotional and/or practical support to a loved one facing a mental health challenge, illness or substance use disorder. This group is free and confidential.

Details: Caring Connections is a peer-led and non-clinical. This means it is facilitated by a CMHA NS employee and a community member with lived experience providing emotional and practical support to a loved one living with a mental illness.

The group will meet weekly on Zoom every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning January 9, 2024 until March 26, 2024. Please note, we are offering this group with the goal of obtaining the resources to offer this group permanently.

Each meeting is 2 hours in length and offers participants a safe place to share their experiences in a guided discussion while learning tools and resources to support their mental health.

Outline: Each week will focus on a different aspect of care. Topics we will discuss include self-care, boundaries, conflict resolution, communication styles,active listening, the WIN formula, the mental health continuum and values.
