Art of Friendship Peer Facilitators
The Art of Friendship program is a weekly workshop offered by the Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia. The Art of Friendship initiative is a suicide prevention and postvention peer support group, using an online community-based workshop to provide high-risk groups with a safe and supported space to meet.
Art of Friendship facilitators are responsible for guiding weekly, virtual, peer-support for eight weeks and we are currently looking for adult peer facilitators that are in one of the following high-risk populations:
- Young men (19-35)
- People who have lost someone to suicide
Commitment: Approx. 70 hours (includes training)
Honorarium: Approx. $1400
Training: Successful candidates will receive training and mentorship from our current and experienced Art of Friendship facilitators.
Implementation: February 2021 (For eight weeks)
Skills we’re looking for:
- Community facilitation experience
- Must be a member of one of the high-risk populations noted
- Credibility within their community
- Lived experience with mental health (doesn’t have to be formally diagnosed)
- Willing and comfortable discussing hard topics
- Confident public speaking
- Engaging and encouraging personality
- Ability to guide group conversations without consulting
- Excellent active listening skills
- Understanding of the peer support model
- Demonstrated commitment to the wellness and well-being of other people
